Repairs to Begin on County Road 553 at Blews Run

Between Fairfield and Lawrence Townships

Cumberland County Freeholder and Public Works Liaison Carol Musso announced today that “Repairs to County Road 553 between Fairfield and Lawrence Township will begin on Wednesday August 2, 2107 and are scheduled to be completed on Friday August 4, 2017 weather permitting.”

Freeholder Musso said, “We want to be sure that everyone is aware of these repairs because the road will need to be closed while the work is being completed. We understand that the road closure will be an inconvenience to the motoring public but the work is necessary as a result of the heavy rains the County experienced on Friday, July 14, 2017. The County greatly appreciates the public’s patience while the repairs are being made to this culvert”.

County Engineer John Knoop said “we declared an Emergency for this project due to a heavy rain that caused a sinkhole to form approximately 4 to 5 feet under the travel lane. The sinkhole was back filled with proper material and a steel plate was placed in the travel lane to minimize any danger to motorists.”

Signage providing motorists with advanced warning of the road closure will be staged at appropriate locations. Signs will be placed North of North Avenue on the south side and on the North Bound side prior to Sayres Neck Road. A detour will be set up for Sayres Neck to Sheppard Davis Road in both directions.

Co-Liaison to the Department of Public Works Freeholder Jim Quinn said, “The work is being completed by Garrison Enterprise Inc. of Vineland and is anticipated to be complete on August 4, 2017.
