Senator Stephen M. Sweeney, Assemblyman John J. Burzichelli and Assemblywoman Celeste M. Riley, all D-3, are urging area residents to support local animal shelters in recognition of National Pet Week.
“Every year, approximately six to eight million dogs and cats are admitted to animal shelters,” Sweeney said. “The Humane Society of the United States estimates that half of these animals are eventually euthanized. While this is often due to temperament or general poor health, in many cases these shelters simply lack the space and resources needed to provide these animals with proper care.”
For residents in Cumberland County, the Third District Legislators recommend supporting the following animal rescue centers and shelters:
- Cumberland County SPCA & Animal Shelter
1244 North Delsea Drive
Vineland, NJ 08360
- PointerRescue.Org, Inc.
