Principal Engineering Aide
Provisional, Pending Civil Service Open Competitive Procedures
Starting Salary: $43,006
Duties: Reports to the Assistant County Engineer. Performs work under the supervision of the Assistant County Engineer including, but not limited to, preparing a complete set of construction drawings using Auto CAD for roadway construction, drainage projects and other Civil Engineering work; reducing survey information and making mathematical calculations to estimate construction quantities; field work includes surveying for construction projects, inspections, preparing daily inspection reports, making routine test involving strength, composition and quality of construction; preparing and checking contract progress estimates; keeping records; and related duties as assigned.
Requirements: Three years of sub-professional engineering experience involving inspections, surveys, tests, drafting, and mathematical computations, or other sub-professional engineering. Knowledge of the characteristics and properties of the materials and of the instruments used in road and other engineering construction activities. Valid New Jersey driver’s license required.
Note: Education may be substituted for experience up to two (2) years on a year-to-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits equal to one (1) year of experience, and with at least twenty-two (22) semester hour credits of the thirty (30) having been in engineering and technical subjects.
Hours: Shifts vary and include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Offers of employment for this title are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing that includes drug screening, criminal background check, and verifications of clean driving record. Including ongoing random drug and alcohol testing.
