Starting Salary: $36,490

DEFINITION:
Under direction of a Supervisor, applies paint, and other coating materials to various surfaces from ground level and/or scaffolds, platforms, and ladders at various heights, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns; follows accepted methods and uses proper materials and/or tools to prepare various surfaces for painting; cares for and cleans standard painting tools; does related work as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3) years of experience in work involving the painting and repainting of the interior and exterior of buildings and structures.

KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the procedures used in preparing surfaces for painting.

Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, occupational hazards, and safety precautions involved in general painting work.

Knowledge of the methods involved in the thinning, mixing, and matching paint.

Knowledge of the procedures involved in staining, vanishing, and refinishing cabinets, desks, chairs, walls and other woodwork.

Knowledge of the procedures involved in the cleaning and use of standard painting tools.

Ability to understand, remember, and carry out verbal or written orders and assignments.

Ability to putty, spackle, and fill holes and cracks where needed.

Ability to work from various elevations.

Ability to rig scaffolding at various elevations.

Ability to use the brush, roller, or spray method for application of paint.

Erects various types of scaffolding such as prefabricated metal or aluminum, wooden and/or swing stages (suspended by ropes or cables attached to roof hooks or outriggers), "A" ladders, window jacks, or ladder jacks, or ladder jacks by following standard methods to paint tall buildings and structures.

Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position

LICENSE:
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

HOURS:
Shifts vary and include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. 40 Hours per week work.

NOTE:
Offers of employment for this title are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing that includes drug screening, criminal background check, and verifications of clean driving record. (Including ongoing random drug and alcohol testing)
