SALARY RANGE: $34,549-$43,155
HOURS/WEEK: 35 hrs. per week
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under direction, takes the lead in providing assessment, individual or group counseling to individuals or families who participate in a program involving the prevention or treatment for alcohol and drug abuse; provides public information concerning alcoholism and drug addiction; may assist in developing education and service programs concerning substance abuse; provides liaison between various concerned organizations; gives direction and provides guidance to other counselors; does other related duties.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing counseling or training in the treatment of alcohol and drug dependent persons or in the prevention of alcoholism. Must possess a certificate or a license issued as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC/LCADC) issued by the State of New Jersey, Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, Division of Consumer Affairs, Department of Law and Public Safety. Possession of a valid drivers license.
Knowledge of the signs and symptoms of alcohol and drug abuse and dependence, knowledge of the social, economic problems of substance dependent individuals. Knowledge of referral, treatment and education of substance abusing clients and their families. Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques.
Ability to evaluate assess the needs and problems of clients. Ability to establish a therapeutic relationship with clients. Ability to prepare clear and accurate documentation of findings and client's progress. Ability to collect, identify and evaluate significant facts; and maintain essential records and files. Ability to prepare treatment plans. Ability to type and use computer.
