Duties:
Reports to County Administrator; performs supervisory and administrative assignments to maintain oversight of the roads and bridges department; performs duties with substantial degree of independence within emergency and prioritized timeframes; utilizes accepted standards of safety and follows County objectives and policies; assists residents with inquiries and complaints; attends meetings with County officials, local municipalities, state representatives and others as necessary; compiles project cost reports; directs and oversees the department's safety program; ensures that training, communications, and policies are presented and adhered to by all department employees;  maintains on-call status 24 hours per day, 7 days per week; oversees inspection of conditions pertaining to roads, bridges, etc.; plans, schedules and supervises department projects and maintenance; prepares department budget and controls expenditures; purchases department equipment, etc.; supervises subordinate personnel, makes recommendations on evaluation, hire and termination of department employees; prioritizes work assignments for subordinates with awareness of budgetary constraints; performs duties in adverse noise, weather and traffic conditions including exposure to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals; related duties as required.

Requirements:
Ten years of experience with highway, bridge and construction maintenance. High school diploma or GED. Possession of valid N.J. driver’s license. Technical degree in construction management or related field and/or equivalent training. Supervisory experience. Computer literacy. Working knowledge of hazardous materials. Strong communication skills. Must be physically able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Familiarity with departmental equipment.
