Department of Aging and the Disabled

(Cumberland Area Transit Systems CATS)

Radio Dispatcher Bilingual

Starting Salary:  $28,616 

 

Duties:  Reports to the CATS Division Head; operates a radio to communicate with CATS drivers and other department employees; transmits and receives communications in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations/policies; transmits and receives CATS communications;  receives complaints and information; makes entries, inquiries, cancellations, and modifications of records as requested; receives and answers telephone, radio and/or video display inquiries; responds to inquiries regarding the application of regulations or policies; requests police, fire or medical units if needed; performs occasional keyboarding which is not complicated and does not require speed; prepares and maintains records of calls; maintains records and files; related duties as required.

 

Requirements:  Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in Spanish and English.  Six months of experience in radio dispatching or operation of radio and telephone equipment.  Computer literacy.  Possession of an FCC Radio Operator License may be substituted for experience.  Familiarity with FCC rules and regulations required to operate a short wave radio system and experience operating radio and telephone equipment.  Ability to understand, recall and carry out oral and written directions.  Ability to recognize and report potentially hazardous situations.   Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations.  Ability to perform repetitive operations such as answering inquiries without loss of patience, or courtesy.  Ability to write accurate, comprehensive reports.   Ability to work effectively with associates, superiors and the public.   Ability to ensure that calls are sent accurately and promptly.
