Probate Clerk, Typing (Provisional)
Starting Salary: $31,682
Duties: Reports to the Surrogate; receives wills and testaments; prepares necessary instruments to admit a will to probate, grant letters of trusteeship or testamentary guardianship, and determines right of person applying for appointment as an administrator and/or as an administrator ad prosequendum, and takes affidavits in Lieu of Administration; draws complaint for appointing a guardian; takes affidavits in Lieu of Guardianship; prepares qualification of a guardian of an incompetent person and examines all papers filed to determine if they are in proper form and completes appointment; answers inquiries regarding procedures of Surrogate’s Court; establishes and maintains files; types documents; prepares suitable reports, dockets, judgment orders, accounts appeals and minutes; examines pending file of probate matters frequently to dispose of cases that have not been completed; prepares commissions for depositions for out-of-state or county fiduciaries and/or witnesses; related duties as assigned.
Requirements: One year of experience with preparation and processing of legal papers and documents dealing with probate practices and procedures. Successful completion of an approved course of paralegal training at an accredited school or educational institution may be substituted for experience. Knowledge of probate practices and procedures and of techniques that would be useful in performing probate and related work. Ability to understand New Jersey law and Supreme Court rules with respect to probating of will and administration of estates. Strong customer service and technology skills.
