Public Safety Telecommunicator – Part time

Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection

Starting Salary:  $32,704 (pro-rated for hours worked)



Duties:  Reports to the Supervising Public Safety Telecommunicator; receives and transmits police, fire, other emergency alarms and telephone requests and communicates to appropriate agencies and personnel; operates a variety of equipment including terminal-computer oriented data processing and communications equipment; works rapidly and accurately under time pressures, distractions and stress; maintains information received and ensures confidentiality; cooperates with supervisory officers to assure accurate and prompt handling of all calls; related work as required.


Requirements: Possession of a current Basic Public Safety Telecommunicator certification and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification.  Demonstrated ability to quickly comprehend written and oral explanations and demonstrations.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely in a pleasant manner.  Familiarity with basic laws and regulations, including the laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures of the FCC.  Ability to function harmoniously in an organized and effective teamwork environment dependent upon responsiveness and accuracy.

Note: Requires 12-hour shifts of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness screening and criminal background checks.
