Salary Range:  $36,753 - $48,533

Reports to the Director, Office on Aging and the Disabled; performs duties associated with the Protective Services Act including intervention services by responding to reports of alleged abuse, neglect or exploitation of senior citizens and other vulnerable adults; assists the aged with their problems; interviews officials and senior citizens; gathers information on existing programs  and  the need, purpose, and available facilities for requested or proposed programs; answers  questions  on social security benefits,  Medicare, Medicaid,  welfare  food  stamps, and other programs  providing assistance for senior citizens; investigates allegations and problems by telephone or field contact and analyses; reviews potential and current  problems of clients; determines why problems of the aged occur and proposes possible solutions; maintains liaison with senior citizen clubs, religious and civic groups, and other organizations or individuals working with older people; refers individuals to appropriate agencies for guidance and assistance; prepares accurate and informative  reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations; maintains essential records and files.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.  One year of experience in counseling or assisting senior citizens with matters involving their welfare.   Computer literacy.  Valid N.J. driver’s license or access to reliable transportation.  Knowledge of the problems of the aged.  Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data.  Ability to prepare concise, accurate, and informative reports.  Ability to maintain essential records and files.  Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
