Supervisor of Roads
Starts at $53,442
(Provisionnal Status Pending Civil Service Testing)

Duties: Reports to the Director of Public Works; supervises and works with subordinates in road maintenance, repair, resurfacing, and/or construction; patches roads with cold patch or other approved methods; installs, cleans and repairs side drains, catch basins, and drain pipes; cuts brush and trees; unloads and stores salt; paints guardrails; supervises and works with subordinates in snow plowing, brining and road salting; operates snow plows and road equipment; assigns and instructs employees; ensures safety precautions and proper procedures are taken to protect the employees and public from injury or property damage; inspects completed work to assure proper procedures are followed, that reasonable standards of workmanship and output are maintained, and that desired objectives are achieved; prepares and maintains time records of personnel, work accomplished, equipment and materials used, and time spent on operations; makes recommendations for corrective action, disciplinary measures, promotions, and staff appointments; advises the Director about high achievement and sub-standard performance by individual workers; maintains responsibility for proper procedures involving worker’s compensation and job-related incident paperwork; related duties as assigned.

Requirements: Three years of experience in road construction, repair and maintenance. Valid CDL and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. Ability to establish and maintain written records of personnel and job-related matters. Strong communication skills. Computer literacy preferred.

Hours: Flexible depending upon weather conditions, other emergencies and staff supervision. Normal 40-hour week is 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Note: Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness screening and criminal background checks. Position is subject to ongoing periodic and random substance abuse testing.
