JOB TITLE: Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainee

SALARY RANGE: $27,127-34,728
HOURS/WEEK: 12 hour shifts

JOB DESCRIPTION: As a Trainee and productive worker and under close supervision of a Public Safety Telecommunicator or higher level operator, in a centralized Communications Center, receives and transmits police, fire, other emergency alarms; receives telephone requests for police, fire or other emergency assistance and transmits same to appropriate personnel; learns to operate a variety of communications equipment; does related work as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Learn quickly from written and oral explanations and demonstrations. Speak clearly and in a pleasant and concise manner. Use terminal-computer oriented data processing and communications equipment. Work rapidly and accurately under pressure of time, distractions and stress. Maintain information received and ensure confidentiality. Cooperate with supervisory officers to assure that calls are sent accurately and promptly. Comprehend basic law and regulations, including the laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures of the FCC and relate these to a communications program. Work harmoniously with others and organize work and develop effective work methods.
