JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Cumberland County 4-H Agent, assist with the implementation and expansion of the family and consumer science components of the Cumberland 4-H Youth Development Program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension.

Help promote all aspects of the 4-H program in Cumberland County; recruit 4-H members and volunteers leaders to become involved in the Cumberland 4-H Program; and organize new 4-H clubs.

Promote, expand and guide the 4-H Youth Development Program and the 4-H Family & Consumer Science project areas including sewing, needlework, food & nutrition, health & fitness/healthy lifestyles, creative arts, double dutch, photography, consumer education and gardening through meetings, personal contacts, workshops and programs presented throughout the county.

Develop selected promotional materials, prepare bi-monthly newsletter and press releases, as necessary.

Assist youth groups and volunteer leaders in club organization, program and project development.

Promote the 4-H program through contacts via telephone, interviews, club meetings; county, regional and state programs and other mass media.

Assist in providing programs for schools and other organizations for the purpose of recruiting new leaders and members.

Assist in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating county-wide workshops, programs and events.

Assist with county fair planning and implementation including set-up, judging, event coordination and wrap-up.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Should have a minimum of a High School Education. A Bachelor's Degree and extensive experience in working with youth preferred.

Knowledge and skills in family and consumer science (home economics) related areas including foods and nutrition, sewing, clothing, needlework, fashion, creative arts, consumer education, healthy lifestyles and double dutch as well as knowledge in the areas of gardening, plant science and photography.

Knowledge and skills in youth and volunteer recruitment and volunteer management.

Strong writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Skills and experience in public speaking, conducting demonstrations and preparing newsletters or other communications.

Proficient in using MS Word, Excel and MS Publisher.

Must have a valid NJ driver license with own insured vehicle.

Must be able to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.

Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

Must be able to establish working relationships with individuals and groups regardless of socio-economic status.

Must be able to accept direction and constructive criticism with a willingness to learn and to compromise.

Ability to work and problem solve independently and/or with a variety of people in a variety of situations.

Productive under deadlines and multiple pressures.

Should possess the initiative, creativity and quality of leadership which is necessary to implement the 4-H educational program.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, a unit of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. 4-H educational programs are offered to all youth, grades K-13 (one year out of high school), on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
