2/26/2013 - Dr. Seuss Reading Program at County Library

Children’s Reading Program

Monday, March 4th at 1:30pm and Tuesday, March 5th at 6:30pm, Miss Melody will read The Lorax by Dr.Seuss. Dr.Seuss is a famous children’s book author. On his birthday, every year people celebrate reading and Dr.Seuss’s ability to make reading fun and entertaining for children. The Lorax was made into a movie which is now very popular among children and adults alike. The story is about a man who comes into a beautiful forest full of “Truffula Trees” and starts cutting them down to sell. The “Lorax” rises and tries to warn the man of the dangers of cutting down the trees. He explains that the creatures that live in the forest need the trees to survive. The man is unfortunately full of greed and does not stop cutting down the precious “Truffula Trees.” After the forest is destroyed, the man becomes known as “The Once-ler.” The book is told from the “Once-ler’s” perspective to spread the message of caring for the environment.

After the story, children will make their own “Truffula Trees” using cotton balls, food coloring, sticks and paint. Children will learn about the importance of caring for the planet, as well as, Dr.Seuss and his legacy. Take home activities will be provided.

Happy Birthday Dr.Seuss!
