Meet Eleanor Roosevelt at Cumberland County Library

On Saturday, July 18, 2015, Cumberland County Library in Bridgeton, NJ will host a free public program, “Eleanor Roosevelt: The War Years”. Scholar and actress Rene Goodwin of The American Historical Theatre will portray Eleanor Roosevelt in an hour long performance, including time for questions and answers from the audience. This free presentation befins at 2pm in the library’s Meeting Room, in the lower level of the library.

When the Roosevelts began their second term in the White House, they faced the challenges of a fallen economy, a growing unrest of racial inequality, and a world going mad with dictators, Fascism, and Communism.  How were they to know it would get worse before it got better?

Limited by the constraints of her role as First Lady, and with a husband growing ever more distant from her, Eleanor Roosevelt strove to make a difference in the world around her in one of the most remarkable periods in the 20th century. This program invites audiences to view the world, between 1936 and 1945, through the eyes of the most remarkable woman of the era.

Funding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission/Department of State and the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders through the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission.

Cumberland County Library is located at 800 E. Commerce Street, Bridgeton. Visit the library’s website at http://www.CCLNJ.org, or call 856-453-2210 for more information about this and other library programs.
