4/2/2013 - The Rain Came Down - April 9th County Library

Cumberland County Library Children’s Program

Tuesday, April 9th at 6:30pm Miss Melody will be reading The Rain Came Down by David Shannon. The night will be devoted to talking about rain! Miss Melody will explain how rain is made. She will show the children a science experiment that makes rain to give them a visual of exactly what makes it rain. Miss Melody will fill a glass jar with hot water and place a bowl over the jar to trap in the heat. The children will add ice cubes to the bowl and observe the creation of rain.

The children will be making rain collectors to measure the amount of rain over a period of time using a plastic water bottle with the top cut off. The bottle will be marked at certain inches and placed outside to watch how much it rains. Children will be given a worksheet to collect their data. After a couple of weeks, children will be asked to bring back their data so we can compare the amount of rainfall at each other’s houses. Along with the other activities, the children can hear rain through the rain stick.
