Cumberland County Library Children’s Reading Program to collect items for SJH patients Cumberland County Library Children’s Reading Program
The Children’s Program of Cumberland County Library is now collecting donations for clients of South Jersey Healthcare’s inpatient behavioral health services. The SJH Bridgeton Health Center is home to both child/adolescent and adult inpatient behavioral health units. Care is provided to adults and children with serious mental health issues, including people who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis. “At times our clients come in with little or nothing to their name,” said Sarah Seabrook-DeJong, administrative director, SJH Behavioral Health Services. “They may be in need of toiletries or hygiene products, underwear, and personal items such as books or journal. While our primary goal is to provide therapeutic emotional support and stability, we believe that helping make sure that our clients’ other basic needs are met can make a real difference for them.”
Sometimes patients are discharged to a shelter, foster care or a long-term facility. Having belongings of their own can ensure some security.
Miss Melody of the Children’s Program is accepting donations at the Cumberland County Library. Acceptable donations include: hygiene products and toiletries, underwear for all ages (ages 5 to adult) and sizes, stuffed animals and of course, books!
No one would choose to spend the holiday season in the hospital, and it’s not uncommon for patients to have no local family. Making a donation is a great way to teach children about the importance of helping others during this time of gift giving!
