Bridgeton Library Announces Activities for February

Preschool Story Time

Tuesdays, February 14, 21, and 28 at 10:30 am.  Children ages 2-6 and a caregiver are invited for stories, songs, finger plays, crafts and a snack.  Story time is free and does not require registration. 

Teen Tuesday – A weekly program for teens ages 12-18 funded by a Community Development Block Grant.

Tuesday, February 7 at 6pm – Teen Library Council Meeting.  TLC members help plan programs for teens and children, help choose new books for the library, and much more! New members welcome.

Tuesday, February 14 at 6pm – Teen Movie & Pizza – Enjoy some delicious pizza while watching an exciting science fiction movie. When Flynn, the world’s greatest video game creator, sends out a secret signal from an amazing digital realm, his son discovers the clue and embarks on a personal journey to save his long-lost father. Rated PG-13.

Tuesday, February 21 at 6pm – Teen Anime Night. Teens can watch anime & help choose new anime and manga for the library. Those who like to draw are encouraged to bring their art. No registration required.

Tuesday, February 28 at 6pm – Teen Video Games. Come and play video games on our big screen. We have XBOX 360, Wii, PS2 and Gamecube. Participants are welcome to bring their own games to share.

NightOut at the Movies

Thursday, February 2, 6 pm – Adults and teens are invited to watch a film that tells the story of Conrad O Johnson and the legendary Kashmere Stage Band. It was afros and pleated shirts; James Brown and Bootsy Collins. It was the ‘70s, and an inner-city Houston high school was about to make history. Charismatic band leader, Conrad “Prof” Johnson would turn the school’s mediocre jazz band into a legendary funk powerhouse. Now, thirty-five years later, his students prepare to pay tribute to the man who changed their lives, the ninety-two-year-old Prof. Some haven’t played their horns in decades, still they dust off their instruments determined to retake the stage to show Prof and the world that they’ve still got it. Rated PG. Enjoy our free popcorn or bring your own snacks.

African Mask Craft

Thursday, February 9, from 6 to 7:30 pm. Kids ages 6 and up are invited to learn   about the origins of Black History Month and make an African Mask with local artist, Christina Campbell. Registration is required for this free program. Funded by a Community Development Block Grant.

Family Movie Night

Thursday, February 16 at 6pm. Children and families are invited to watch a classic animated movie on our big screen! Lady, a pampered cocker spaniel, and Tramp, a jaunty, freedom-loving mutt with a heart of gold, share an enthralling romance and thrilling adventures. Rated G. Enjoy our free popcorn, or bring your own snacks.

Lego Club

Saturday, February 18, 1-2:30 pm. – Kids ages five and up are invited to attend     our new Lego program where we will listen to stories based on a theme, and then    build our own creations to go with that theme.  Lego blocks will be supplied by the library – please do not bring your own blocks. Registration is required. Funded by a Community Development Block Grant for Library Programming.

Friends of the Bridgeton Library Meeting

Tuesday, February 21 at 7pm. Come out and learn how you can help your library. New members are always welcome! 

Book Discussion for Grades 4 and up.

Thursday, February 23, 6-7:30 pm. Kids in grades 4 and up are invited to discuss   the book, The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger. Sixth-grader Tommy has one mission – to figure out if theOrigami Yoda is real. While some might think that he is only a finger puppet worn by the class oddball, Dwight, Tommy is not so sure. Most of the advice Yoda has given has been amazingly accurate. As he gathers evidence to try to decide whether Yoda is real, Tommy realizes that he wants to ask his own question: Should he ask Sara to the dance? But if he takes Yoda’s advice, will he end up looking like a fool?

            
Registration is required for this program. Participants will receive a free copy of the book to be discussed when they register in person. Registrants must attend the discussion if they take a book. Funded by a Community Development Block Grant.
