4-H Workshop Teaches Public Speaking Skills

The 4-H Public Speaking Workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 7:00 PM at the 4-H Center located at 291 Morton Avenue in Rosenhayn. 4-H leaders, 4-H members and parents are invited to attend. The workshop will focus on the public speaking techniques; types of presentations; parts of a presentation (introduction, body and summary); how to select a topic; how to plan a presentation and use posters, props and samples.

This workshop will help 4-H members get ready for the annual county-wide 4-H Public Speaking Contest scheduled for the last week in March. This event is co-sponsored by the Bridgeton Kiwanis Club. This marks the 49th year for the service club’s continuous sponsorship of the 4-H public speaking program. The Bridgeton Kiwanis will be presenting all 4-H members who give a presentation with an award ribbon, certificate and token gift.

The 4-H Youth Development Program uses a learn-by-doing approach to enable youth to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to become competent, caring, and contributing citizens of the world. This mission is accomplished by using the knowledge and resources of the land-grant university system, along with the involvement of caring adults. Public speaking is one of the many valuable life skills that 4-H members learn and practice.

The 4-H Youth Development Program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension offers educational programs to all youth, grades K-13 (one year out of high school), on an age appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.

4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills!
