4/2/2009 - County Library Offers Information For Tax Returns

Many free tax forms may be obtained at the Cumberland County Library. Any form that is not free may be reproduced from volumes of tax forms for 10¢ a copy. Cumberland County Library also offers a free publication, “IRS Guide to Free Tax Services” which identifies the many IRS tax materials and services available and how, when and where to get them. There is also information on IRS e-file, free electronic tax filing.

The IRS website (http://www.irs.gov) provides information on electronic filing for individuals and businesses. Other sources of information on taxes are the IRS Tax Fax, 1-703-368-9694 and Forms and publications, 1-800-829-3676. For TeleTax Recorded Tax Information and Automated Refund Information, call toll free 1-800-829-4477.

Free line by line assistance from the IRS can be obtained by traveling to Cherry Hill or Mays Landing. There is no IRS office in Cumberland County. The addresses for the IRS offices are 57 Haddonfield Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ, 856-321-1320 and 5218 Atlantic Ave., Mays Landing, NJ, 609-625-0678.

Help with your State taxes may be obtained from the NJ Division of Taxation, 1 Port Center, 2 Riverside Dr., Suite 200, Camden, NJ. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or call 1-800-323-4400. Another state office is in Northfield at 1915-A New Road (Route 9). To mail your return for a refund, send it to State of NJ, Department of the Treasury, Division of Taxation, PO Box 555, Trenton, NJ 08647-0555. To mail a return with a payment change the PO Box to 111 and the zip code to 08645-0111.

For people 60 and over with low or moderate incomes, free income tax assistance will be available at Millville Public Library up to April 15. This program is sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons and the Internal Revenue Service. Call 856-825-7087, ext. 10 for an appointment.

United Way Cumberland County offers free tax preparation through April 15 by appointment only, at 629 E. Wood St., Vineland. Phone 856-205-1800. Volunteers are trained by the IRS VITA program.

Tax forms are available at Millville Public Library, 210 Buck Street, Bridgeton Public Library, 150 East Commerce St. and Vineland Public Library, 1058 E. Landis Ave.

Cumberland County Library, located at 800 E. Commerce St. (Route 49) , Bridgeton, is open from Monday through Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
