The Retired and Senior and Volunteer Program (RSVP) is the largest organized senior volunteer program in the nation and is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service. This program is sponsored by the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders and administered by the Cumberland County Office on Aging & Disabled, provides opportunities for people aged 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service.  RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choices of volunteer assignments working in community wide projects throughout Cumberland County, New Jersey. RSVP has 355 volunteers working in 56 volunteer sites. Our volunteers contribute anywhere from a few hours to over forty hours a week.  In 2009, 355 volunteers provided over 63,000 hours serving their community.

Eligibility

  • Adults who are at least 55 years of  age are eligible for the RSVP program

Your community needs you! RSVP can help you use your skills and talents to assists others. Volunteers are the “Helping Hands” of the majority of non-profit organizations and are often in short supply. RSVP volunteer’s help these agencies meet the priority needs of the community. The staff of RSVP will be happy to match your skills to the specific needs of our community’s agencies. We can open doors to make the right contact for you as a volunteer.  We're always interested in hearing about your volunteer experience and will contact you periodically to make certain you are satisfied with your assignment.

RSVP of Cumberland County New Jersey needs volunteers for the following sites:

Amachi Mentoring Program

Needs volunteers to mentor youth, ages 6-12, through a consortium of faith-based partnerships in Bridgeton, Millville, and Vineland

SHIP
(Senior Health Insurance Program)

State sponsored program needs volunteers to assist and council seniors with health insurance questions, mandatory training and monthly meeting

Margaret Winchester Enrichment Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Volunteers needed to assist clients by providing escort and guide services, participating in activities and in daily programs of the center

American Red Cross

Volunteers needed in the Blood Services Department that can volunteer 3-4 hours once a week in different blood drives throughout Cumberland County

Bill Payer's Program

Needs volunteers 1 hour per month in Cumberland County to assist clients in their homes with writing checks, balancing client checkbooks and establishing a budget (all checks are signed by the clients)

Big Brothers/Big Sisters 

Needs volunteers to take part in a 1:1 mentoring relationship between caring, committed volunteer and a child who is in need of a positive role model and friend 

 Meals on Wheels

Needs volunteers to deliver a hot meal to the elderly and homebound on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bridgeton area
