Mary E. Rossi:
A Beloved Teacher

Mary E. Rossi, a much-revered educator, had a 40-year career with the Vineland Board of Education, beginning in 1924.

A math and chemistry teacher, she served as vice-principal of Vineland High School beginning in 1932, and as principal from 1942 to 1964.

A pioneer in the development of educational enrichment programs, Rossi was instrumental in procuring federal aid for education in Vineland.

Students and staff often referred to Rossi as “The Rock of Gibraltar.” She was thought of as a strict, but fair disciplinarian, dedicated to her school and students.

She died in 1999 at the age of 95.
