Sam Mastrangelo, Sr.:
Buena Exists Largely Due to His Efforts

Sam Mastrangelo, Sr. of Minotola is one of the founding fathers of Buena. A large proponent for the borough’s incorporation in 1949, Mastrangelo personally presented the idea to the governor and backed the project.

Mastrangelo is well known for his career of public service and community activism. A former Atlantic County freeholder, he also served as sheriff for a year in the 1960s.

Mastrangelo headed civil defense efforts in the borough during World War II.

He also served separate terms as chief and as president of the Landisville Fire Company during the 1930s and '40s.

In 1999, the fire company honored him for his many contributions, and for being the oldest living member.
