Oberlin Smith: Engineering, Employment Leader   

A famed industrialist, Oberlin Smith founded the Ferracute Machine Co. in Bridgeton during the 19th century.

He was known throughout the engineering world for his advances in technology of pressing metals, and is considered to be the father of magnetic recording.

Almost until his death in 1926, he was considered a progressive employer, taking an active interest in Bridgeton and his employees.
