Leverett Newcomb: Patron Envisions City Hospital

A wealthy Vineland attorney, Leverett Newcomb, donated about $225,000 and a site covering two city blocks for the construction of Newcomb Hospital.

When the hospital opened in 1924, it featured some of the most modern equipment of the era, including an electric dishwasher and new X-ray equipment.

Newcomb died in 1926. His remains are buried under a beech tree in the hospital parking lot.
